At the home where I worked
there was a unit for children with profoundly special needs. Although a young man in year, the boy in the section had been in a total care evironment all his life, and was loved as a child by staff and family alike. Little Lamb who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life and bid thee feed
By the sream and o'er the mead'
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, wooly bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little Lamb sho made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
These words by William Blake seem to help us put life into perspective. We are all children of God, the Lamb of God. And a motley bunch of children we be. But no matter who we are or what we attain in life, we are told that we must love and care for those who need us. And then there are the special children, like ____, who need our care and protection throughout their lives. _____ could not ask for what he wanted or needed, at least in the conventional sense; he could not move from place to place without someone to help him. But he heard and felt and saw. He had a unique way of being and of expressing himself. He had a recognizable voice and mannerisms all his own. He had likes and dislikes which those who knew him understood. He was, and is, a true lamb of God.
_____brought out what is good in all of us just by being here. He touched that part of us which needs to care for and nurture those who would be defenseless; he helped us to understand that we children of God come in all shapes and sizes and with needs all our own. _____was entrusted to us by his family because they wanted him to have the best and most loving care that could be provided. God entrusted him to us in part to help us remember that no matter what we do or have, we do nothing unless we give our unselfish love and care to one of Christ's Little Lambs. Someone very special is gone from us, but we will always remember him and when we do, we will feel good because we knew him and because his life was better because of us and ours were enriched by him. Amen
Little Lamb, I'll tell thee.
Little Lamb, I'll tell thee.
He is called by thy name,
For he calls himself a lamb.
He is meek and He is mild,
He became a little child.
I a child, thou a Lamb
We are called by his name.
Little Lamb, God bless thee.
Little Lamb, God bless thee.

I would like to share a remembrance of _____with you.
____made his likes and dislikes quite clear without words. When I first started bringing my keyboard into the unit, I wasn't really good at maneuvering, and I accidentally bumped Chris's chair. I guess he had been snoozing, because he did not appreciate this and spent the next hour grumbling. However, it worked; I never bumped his chair again.
